Like most adults in the United States, Terri Worman has grown up hearing and seeing mixed messages about what it means to grow older in our society. Often those messages paint a picture of decline, loss, and having no place in a “younger” world. Or they show us the “super seniors” who have bucked the odds at age 90 or 100. What many of us don’t realize is these messages can become powerful forces in how we see ourselves and others, keeping us from trying new things, helping others, and even accepting help ourselves – all because we have been told we are “too old.”
